I went back to Hawaii again at the end of 2013 but this time to the island of Oahu. I didn't bring a camera with me this time so most of the photos were taken with my Samsung galaxy s4.

On our first day there we just sort of drive around and found this place.
This photo is of a Japanese temple which is a replica of the real one from Kyoto. Everything is a replica down to the bridge and the landscaping.

I woke up early the next day just to see the sun rise.

I just love the dragon fruit smoothie from this place. This shit is on point!

On the 3rd day we hiked Maunawili trail. President Obama went and hike there about 3 days after we went.

And of course I took a dip in the waterfall pool again but this time I lost my glasses so I went down the mountain blinded.

On the 4th day, we went hiking up Koko head. It's a good 1100ft up and the path gets steeper. I went up and and down twice but my legs were sore for 3 days afterwards. I really love the view up there.

On the 5th and 6th day, we just chill at the beach to rest our legs. The reefs at Hanauma Bay are really beautiful.

All we did in the last day was eat and eat and eat. I think everybody gained a few pounds coming back home even though we walked over 60 miles total for the week we were there. Coincidentally we also met a friend on the last night while having some beer at Japanese BBQ called Gyukaku. He was there for his honey moon.

I went to the northwest coast last May of 2014. This time I brought my Sony RX100 M2 camera along. It took me about a week to know how to use most of the functions. The pictures on this camera makes a world of difference compared to all the others I took. The RX100 M2 is better than the regular RX100 in that it's iso is 12800 which means better pictures in lower light conditions. Also the display can be flipped around and it also have NFC function so I can remotely control some basic functions of the camera with my smartphone. The NFC also can be use to wirelessly transfer photos to any wi-fi capable device. What set this compact camera from the others in the same category is that it have a 1" sensor while most compact camera have 1/2.3" sensor. That means it sensor size is around the size of some DSLR cameras. It is compact enough that it can fit into a decent size pocket. The down side is that it costs $700 and with some accessories, can go well above $1000. The other downside is that it does not have an EVF or electric view finder. Apparently the new Sony RX100 M3 that just came out have the full 180 degree flip display so you can take selfies, a better image processor and best of all a built in EVF. It costs about $100 more than the M2 but an aftermarket EVF for the M2 costs at least $250 so it isn't so bad.

The 1st day there, we visited the Museum of Flight in Seattle and decided to take a few test shots. It came out better than I expected of this compact camera.

On the 2nd day, we went to Portland and took a walk around the Japanese garden there. I actually managed to take a few decent shots in half lit areas. I found that I really like taking pictures at times when the sun provide a back glow of the surrounding.

More pictures to come after I sort them out.

Proper lighting makes a world of difference and I like your garden snapshots. Why aren't you using a DSLR?
