There is a video circulating the internet of a Cambodian woman and a Buddhist monk having sex. The video shows Maya Men and the Venerable Nhem Kimteng engaging in sexual relations in the Trairatanaram Temple in North Chelmsford, Massachusetts. The scandal has caused an outrage among the Khmer community. A recent email stated that the video was secretly recorded by the Venerable Cheng Leang and accuses Maya of using her sex life to take control of all top-level monks. The woman is now suing 5 members from the board of the Community of Khmer Buddhist Monks for illegally recording the video. Sam Meas is one of the members being sued.

I haven't been visiting or making any donations to the Temples due to the corruptions within the committee members. These guys are scamming the Khmer folk's hard earned cash for their own greed. They fight among themselves to the point of dividing the temple into a non united hell place. Quite a shame that the monk involved in this video is a high ranked PHD monk. Maya who was part of the committee should've been kicked out but the head monk is still defending her, which is why a lot of folks here are angered.

Yes, I've seen that infamous video.

Man, this is outrageous. These corrupted Monks had cause our belief, religion, culture down to the drain. This is why many Cambodian do not go to Temple (Wat) because of losing faith in Monks. I bet later in the decade, many Cambodian X-generation do not know their own religion esp the major Bon. Y? because this type of "sinful" Monks caused.

But then I do feel it's wrong to publish the video online. They should have give the video to whomever the head of the community or Temple and have the Monk resign. This way there's no lawsuit and does not violate their the First Amendment (privacy violation).

I heard from my dad that this Monk was very educated in religion. He was sponsored from Cambodia by the Monk aka Community since that's where the fund came from. Knowing that he's educated and hoped he would spread religion to Khmer community but man.....

Rei: If i were u , i would go and help the community to fight and save our religion. Kicking all the "bad" Monk out.

Definitely agreed with you Groupon. Even though less people are going to the temple, there are several Khmer committees and volunteers that are trying to improve the community here. The Angkor Dance Troupe has been doing a tremendous job in spreading our arts and culture through the east coast for many years already. We even got our official Little Cambodia title district last year.

This new year we had a nice celebration at the park with people marching in costumes around the block -- definitely eye catching if you were driving by. I know we need to do a lot more to keep our culture alive for generations to come.

So yeah, this temple issue is quite a set back -- not just the sex video, but how the temple is controlled and divided and have their own extreme loyal fans that hate each other. I saw the schematic drawing of the new $10M Khmer temple. I thought it looked beautiful but I don't think the project will be moving because of this video and other contributed issues.

It's good that the community introduce Khmer art and culture but I was referring to major bon like Pa-Jum Ben and some other major bon. Like I said, most x-gen do not even know y we do Pa-Jum Ben. What's the history behides this? Every Bon, the Monk will explain or tell story, "Tes-S'na". I think that's how it spell. Yes there r a few "bad" Monks, and hope just cuz of that we don't go to temple who "good" Monks are there to support the religion.

Me, I still go eventho i knew some might be corrupted cuz i knew there's also a "good" monk in that temple. And I want to pass it to my kids so that they will remember that oh this day/that day is Khmer Bon and we need to go Temple. Compare to our visit to Temple, we can't even compare to other religion. Every Sunday they go to church. Us, only a few in a year but we still had no time or just cuz of the :bad" monk we stop.

We all seem many Priests did outrageous things but the people of that church still go and support their religion and force "bad" priest to resign. All Khmer people should have done and learn from how American does per my example.

I see your points and that's why the folks here are angry even though they are still supporting. It's hard to blame the people though, especially when the temples here have been supported by millions of dollars by the Khmer community over the years. Just recently, most of the money went missing and it has been raising a lot of concerns. Even after this video incident, the head monk refuses to kick that woman out.

I believe people are still supporting the temples, just not that temple. Luckily we have a second temple around here that has been getting a lot of support lately.

Hey Yume it's OK, your reaction is normal in my standard and everyone should be free to express themselves. :D Lady Maya is lucky because this happened in the US. I wonder what kind of punishment she would get if this happened in Cambodia instead.

Yeah, it's insane how shameless some people can be. There are still a few people backing her up, but I'm not sure what they are thinking.

Am very disappointed. You would have think people who goes/work for the temple would have morals. I just feel that now then days the temple is about making money and fighting over who are more superior in rank. Every time I go to temples I feel like my pockets are all always empty because they are always asking for donation. I don't mind donating but I would like to see where the money is going too.

I feel the same way, I wouldn't mind donating at all -- I'm usually a fan of it but only if I know where it is going to. Otherwise I wouldn't even give a dime.

where is the sex tape?
In case any cares, there also a khmer porn star, forget her name though...
her name lily thai....

At the latest Khmer funeral that I attended, I overheard some of the monks checking out the ladies and young girls. The stuff they said made my jaw dropped. These monks sure have their heads in the gutter and the lay people are looking up to them like they are holy. Why be a monk if you don't have the right mindset?

When I lived in the temple, also, I had to go civil court every week! The monks were fighting for control of the temple. It was monks that were Khmer Luer and Khmer Krom...lol In the end, one of them won and kick all the other monks out, me including, because I was with the losing side, I was a student of the Abbot Monk...He was Khmer Krom, assuming last name Thach, I was khmer Luer though. Anyways, they ask me to join with them, I say no...I cannot...I could not even have lunch with them...i was forbidden :D Anyways, this isn't new to me, Monks fight all the time....At night, we secretly watch Mike Tyson fight on Pay Per View and romantic scenes ahahahahah......crazy stuff right? But also, I met a lot of real monks too....I met the abbot monk from West Virginia.....He's real deal.....

Well said there Phon. Regardless of age, gender, race or religion -- for me, respect is earned, not given. My parents are the only few that I highly respect followed by a couple of great teachers in my past.
