Gigi is not the same Su Rong Rong from the novel at all. I wonder why they butchered her character for? She doesn't do much to help the plot but be Chor's love interest here. My favourite character is Anita Yeun as Sung Sai Wu, although this character doesn't even appear in the novel at all. Monk Mou Fa and Nan Gong Ling don't have a sister in the novel, they do have a mother however and she is Shi Guan Yin. That part of the novel is omitted though and Shi Guan Yin and her disciples are not in this adaption. Ruby Lin's character also doesn't appear in the novel, she is also only here to be one of Chor's love interest. It's funny her father doesn't even appear in this novel, he only appears in Luk Siu Fung's stories, what is he doing here I wonder? He is still a thief though but an old man instead, strange.
ya know, its a bad idea to compare two characters, why you ask because between the novel and the movie, they like to make things different. The novel may go this way but the movie take a turn but always end up at the same part at the end, this is what make movie interesting, so like i said, character are different, novel and movie don't mix, comparison is a headach and i dont think you want to go there.

Hi Chris. I changed my name a while back ago but I am positive you do know me. I have been at khmeravenue for a very long time. I just wanted to start "new" and create a new identity (my cp got erased and I forgot my password and etc). I like to make comparisons with the novels because it is very funny what the directors come up with. The real author is dead so he can't see what they are doing to his works. But I wonder why none of Gulong's adaptions stick closely to the novel, while A LOT of Jin Yong dramas tend to stick faithful? It is because Gulong is dead and Jin Yong is alive?
I think my favorite character was also Anita Yeun, although I watched the series because I wanted to see Monica Chan and Kristy Yang. Didn't think I wanted to miss out on the all star actresses too.
I used to love the theme song a lot back then.

Sounds like you are familiar with a lot of stories. Do you read all the novels? I liked Si Kong Jai Sin in Return of Luk Siu Fung. Interesting character. Does anyone have that series?
I do read a lot of novels/stories, but I tend to skip a lot of parts as well. I only read ones I am interested in though and not all. Like The Demi Gods and Semi Devils, I never bothered reading the novel at all because unlike everyone else, I personally don't really like the story. Every adaption I watched I just skim through all of them, I can't get into the story for some reason no matter which adaption.
Another one is State of Divinity, I am not big of a fan at all of the novel or serials. I don't hate them by any means I just can't get myself into those two stories there are just too many characters to follow. I just read the synopsis for both stories and pretty much know the entire story. I haven't read all the Chor Lau Heung stories though, I only have read stories 1-4.
This 2001 adaption covers story 1 and 3 and a bit of part 2. Similar to Adam Cheng's 1979 version which also covers the first 3 stories. Also Ken Zhu's 2007 version too runs in the same pattern, which covers stories 1-3. I like this adaption better than Ken Zhu's version, but is there a need to kill of the entire cast? Even Hue Tie Hua dies, I cannot accept this at all! Funny how all the ladies here in the 2001 version don't appear in the novel. Anita's character did not exist in the novel, neither did Ruby Lin, neither did Kristy Yang (Xue Yiren has a daughter, not a sister), neither did Monica Chan (there are no nice people from Holy Water Palace), neither did Kelly Lin's princess character, and Joey Meng's character too.
Really?! DGSD 1996 is one of the best adaptions ever, in my opinion. State of Divinity 1996 got a wonderful actor to play the protagonist, and I find the Linghu Chong character super likeable. Both have intricate storyline, which I find intriguing. Though reading the novels might change my perspectives about the stories and or characters. What is your favorite series or novel, LianNiChang? Is it White Hair Maiden? Or am I confusing you with someone else? Heh.

It's called The Return of Luk Siu Fung. Not sure if it's classic but it is old.

You got it Hamster, no mistake. Liang Yu Sheng is my favourite author and 白髮魔女傳 (White Hair Maiden) is my favourite novel. I probably don't have to tell you who my favourite character is right? In Jin Yong and Gulong's world the men are always the stronger, but in LYS's world the woman are just as capable or even more capable then the guys. (White Hair Maiden for example). Another one of my favourite is 萍蹤俠影錄 (Wandering Hero Chronicles) which is also the prequel to White Hair Maiden. To date there has not been any adaption that follows the novels faithfully, the ATV versions in 80's are the closest and therefore the best.
I admit State of Divinity 1996 is a very good adaption, I skimmed through most parts but never watched the entire thing but if I had to watch an adaption it would be that one for sure. The character Dong Fang Bu Bai is a very interesting one but I still don't like the overall story like everyone else. In Demi Gods story my favourite character is Tian Shan Tong Lao, I think she is absolutely hilarious and not to mention a very powerful woman (which is rare in JY's world). But I have a hard time sitting down and watching the entire thing or reading the entire novel for any adaptions. It's just me I guess... His other novels (Duke of Mount Deer, Heaven Sword and Dragon Blade, Return of Condor Lovers) I like, but it's just those two stories I can't immerse myself into like everyone else.
