I was thinking of canned foods that I can stock up on for natural disaster preparedness. Canned mackerel is among the items. This is the tastiest canned mackerel imo. It's mackerel pike in natural oil. It's good in kimchi stew. If you have any canned food recommendations, post it here.

For a simple recipe, just heat up olive oil in a saute pan, add minced garlic and let fragrant, then add the mackerel pike without the juice. After a few minutes pour a little or all of the juice into the pan. No need to add seasoning, maybe a little sugar if you like. Eat with rice.

Mrredblueberry, those things you listed didn't even cross my mind. Thanks!

You probably can't keep kimchi too long but if you like kimchi and you're in the Garden Grove area, buy a jar from here:

They really deserve the 5-stars, their kimchi is the best that I've tasted. Great with fried fish. :)

Thanks hamster. I will try to remember that. But I never have kimchi before. Especially when it comes spicy food it is not my cup of tea. Does it has fish sauce in it. Because I am allergy to fish sauce

I eat it with everything. But when it gets too sour I use it to make stew.

Some put anchovies in it or shrimp paste or both. I don't see fish sauce as one of the ingredients, unless you count anchovies. It's not too spicy. In fact, I tried several different brands and the level of spicy for them is a 2 on a 10 scale.

As for earthquake preparation, you can also preserve your food with a dehydrator.

Pickled carrots, pickled cucumbers, pickled cabbage, pickled apples...I dont know how long they last though. But we always make that stuff at home to eat with fish chicken or some seasoned meat.

Things you can stock up. Canned corn, canned bamboo shoots, sardines, tuna, beef jerky, canned soup, uncooked pasta noodles, side cook noodles, etc.

I think this is the best stock up food. You can eat it raw.

I read a little on earthquake kit where some stated that many canned food is just plain nasty to consume. But many of them agreed that the brand Spam is the best in taste wise for canned food.
